Exact Match Domains Google Update

You can’t say you wasn’t warned! Last year Matt Cutts did say they were looking at exact match domains and if they should rank so well. It seems they have now taken action and I think it is for the better.

A lot of the exact match domains, were low quality affiliate websites and didn’t really offer anything new to the party! I regularly get asked by clients if they should be spending time working on micro sites, my advice has always been unless these micro sites are going to add value (give information or resources not available elsewhere) then they should concentrate on their main website and brand.

I’m not doubting there were exact match domains which did add value but on the whole it was screwed up the way you could rank so well with exact match domains, if you do produce such good content, you will naturally achieve links from other sites and feature on page 1 of Google anyway.
